Evergreen Youth Livestock Show Sale night
« on: August 24, 2019, 10:46:20 PM »
Given the other threads talking about the youth livestock shows I figured I’d post some of the numbers from the sale tonight at our fair.
Grand champion steer sold for $5 a pound and he was 1410 on the hoof and the reserve champion steer was $3.50 a pound. I didn’t note his weight but he was a big fella too.
Pigs all were right around $4 a pound give or take a little.
Grand champion Boer goat was $10.50 a pound and he was 89 pounds. The reserve champion was 7.80 a pound at 83 pounds.
I didn’t note any of the lambs but they were all $3-4 a pound and anywhere from 110-140 pounds give or take.
Rabbits were all over the place anywhere from $80-220 and one meat pen sold for $240.
I didn’t stick around for the poultry but I did hear a turkey sell for $750.
Tons of hard working kids got a little extra spending money tonight. It was a really great time.

My daughter brought in $3.50 lb but some other well connected kids went $5.00 lb hog.  Businesses buy up most of the livestock and if a kid is connected to a family business...they make bank.  Although there are some grandparents that buy their grand kids' hog for $5.00 lb every year regardless.

I wasn't able to attend the fat stock sale this year but I normally jot down prices, really not much different from your fair to ours in price fluctuations other than like I said ribbons seem to count for less than last names do.

Les Schwab spent a bunch of $$ last night.  Several other businesses as well.  Both the Monroe/Snohomish co-op and Co-op Supply are big supporters every year as is Del Fox meats.

That’s about what our animals fetched at the Thurston County Fair a few weeks back. My kids are showing at the State fair in Puyallup in a couple of weeks.

My kid qualified for the Snohomish county rabbit judging team at state. We’re going to take her just for that for the day.

Sweeet!!  Both of my girls show cows and do cattle judging. My oldest is going to school to become an Ag teacher and livestock judge. It’s been a great way to keep the kids out of trouble.

I really believe it’s a good way to go for kids. Tough to find a harder working group of kids.

She finished 3rd this year judging but she didn’t judge a whole class. 7 classes, she accidentally judged one of the senior classes and missed an intermediate class. Lost 50 possible points and still finished 3rd. She was the high scorer in breed ID and oral reasons.
(She scored 47/50 judging the oops senior class lol)
