I dunno what to believe anymore when it comes to coyotes. I only keep mid/late October until Valentine’s Day. This year a guy I know wanted to sell some hides and the fur buyer showed up and took all 13 pelts. Frozen and rolled up so he couldn’t judge em. Once he was gone the guy told me the pelts were from August until late March and one had been in the freezer for “a year or 2”. 12 pelts sold. 10 for about his average- 75-85. 2 for half the average. 1 wasn’t put up. So with the market right now, just sell em if they look nice. The guy I’ve been using will sew up the biggest holes too, and they still sell.

If I have any free time I usually go for coyotes. Year round. Some of the more memorable hunts are in late summer evenings. Only time I slow down down is in the extreme heat or cold.

They are worth shooting from October 1 to the end of February.. Prime is Nov 1 to January 15 but I'm not letting $50 to $75 walk away when I'm out calling cougars and bobcats.

I always find this topic funny. Kill all the nasty bird eating, fawn killing coyotes you can, except when they have pups or their fur isn't prime.

I mistook the question I guess, I hunt em all year but only keep furs late October until mid feb. Called 2-3 packs last night using a diaphragm and a few long howls. Kept them howling back for 10 minutes while figuring locations on onX.

I kill em year round and leave em. I have no interest in the fur, just keeping them off of my cattle. Up to 18 so far this year.

I don’t start targeting them until I’m finished with elk, so about Nov. 1st. But I will shoot them any chance I get, even if I’m hunting deer/elk.
