trouble holding steady
« on: September 07, 2019, 04:55:46 PM »
So I'm getting ready for my elk trip to Idaho next Saturday, and I'm having a terrible time holding the bow steady for good groupings.I don't feel like it's the draw weight- I can hold the bow out towards the target & pull it straight back with little strain & I don't struggle to hold it back. When I do manage to holdout steady, I get good groupings with field tips and broad heads. I'm using an 8" stabilizer right now, and am wondering if a longer or heavier stabilizer would help me out?

Thanks for any tips.

Could it be your draw length? Causing you to hold either not fully drawn into the wall or the opposite?

Maybe. I didn't think of that. The bow has a new string on it, and when I started shooting it again, I had to shorten the strap on my release. Maybe I need to shorten it a bit more. That's a good idea, thank you.

Check your caffeine and junk food intake.  As I get older I am finding that both have an effect on me.

Thanks, Everyone. It turns out when the new string was installed, the draw length is now a solid inch shorter than it was. I lengthened the strap on my wrist release so I can extend my arm out all the way. The trigger is hard to reach now and I can't see the colored ring of the sight through the peep, but it's going to have to work until I get back from Idaho then I can get it fixed.

It’s a bummer a good archery shop is hard to find. When you get home invest in a bow press. Another option you could learn how to tie in a knock loop and tie one that’s 1” longer for short term comfort.
