Wind meter
« on: April 02, 2009, 11:23:01 AM »
Anyone know a good wind meter, gonna use it for long range shooting. Gonna set up a gong at about 1200 yards and see if I can hit it.
 Thanks

I also use a Kestrel. They run about $200. I've never thought about taking it shooting. I guess knowing the wind where you're at is better than just guessing what the wind is doing. And it may help you to estimate what the wind is doing down range.

I bought a La Crosse Technology EA-3010U hand-held anemometer recently. It measures velocities in the range of interest, was reasonably priced (about $40) and measures temperature and wind chill to boot. It is small and light.

By Googling: http://www.amazon.com/Crosse-Technology-EA-3010U-Handheld-Anemometer/dp/B0002WZRKE

I used mine to dope the wind at a rifle match last weekend (300-600 yd event).

If your at a range and have a spoting scope, why not save some money and use flags? Just a thought.

Then we are left to guess how fast the wind is blowing based on how fast the flag is moving....  :chuckle:

I use a Brunton that tells me temp, time, baromoter, wind, etc.  Been pretty happy with it.
