2019 Alaska moose
«
on:
September 17, 2019, 02:42:54 AM »
I just got back out of the field after a ten day moose hunt in Alaska. This was my third moose hunt up there and my third and biggest bull yet. Hunting was harder this time because of how hot it was up there and the rut wasn’t really fired up.

Not a whole lot to the story. We hunted this area once before and had success. Last times the bulls were rutting hard and we called them almost into the camp/air strip where we killed them. We tried that tactic again this time but the bulls just would come in close enough. We were seeing 4-6 bulls a day but from distances between 500 yards out to over a mile. We had one small bull come in to 65 yards one evening. On the 8th day of the ten day hunt I decided to go on the offensive and I went down in the basin after I watched a bull bed down a little over a mile from camp. I set up about 200 yards out and after three hours he stood up out of him bed and I shot him.
Pack out took three days and was BRUTAL!

Forgive the lack of pics. I was down in the hole by myself for over an hour before my buddy made it down there to help (long way down). It was hot so I wanted to get it broken down. I took a few photos the best I could with the timer on my phone
