I was able to get 3 rounds off today. 74.5gn of H4350 250gn Accubonds, average speed of 2889. Wasn't really trying to get groups on paper, mainly just shooting to get through the break-in process and record some speeds. Recoil feels like a 243. Primers look great and bolt lift was easy.

What does the weight come out to now that its all put together?

Super nice rifle you've built yourself there. I am working on something similar this winter, you may have just swayed me from the chassis I was going to run, back to finding a used stock and a diy paintjob. That thing looks amazing!

Thanks  it turned out better than I could have hoped.
Weight is right at 14.5lbs with mag and sling. My bipod will probably take it over 15 lbs. like I said in my first couple posts I was originally going to build a hunting rifle, but obviously with the heavier stock, bull barrel, heavy scope, steel base and rings, 1/2lb muzzle brake. It all adds up  ..lol

I saved probably $2000 by searching the forums. Some stuff I bought new. You could save even more building off a Rem 700 platform, there’s a lot more parts out there.

I already have the savage donor, probably stick to using that because it would be worthless if I don't use it as a donor.
my number has been 12#'s in my head, but I think that may be hard to do with the barrel profile that I want.

I have no regrets with using the savage action, they also have very long mag and ejection ports. You could easily stay around 12lbs if you wanted to. My thought was why have a slim barrel for target shooting.

Jason, can you measure the distance from the rear action screw hole to the back of the mag well cutout? That picture reminded me that I've got an old flat back Savage long action that I want to use for something, but the old actions had a smaller mag well cutout. I just need to figure out how far to open it up with the Dremel.

Now that hunting season has come and gone its time to get back to shooting and load development. Loaded up some 250gr Accubonds.

When is the moose hunt? That rifle looks far different then my all stock Savage M16. (300WSM).

I like everything about your rifle. I’ve done 4 builds off of savage actions now and they all shoot crazy good. I’m sure yours will too. I like the bolt body work.  Might have to send a couple bolts off to that guy.

It’s been a fun build. It was $100 for the bolt work at Dark Eagle. dan@darkeaglecustom.com. He can supply the bolt body for extra charge if you don’t want to send him yours.
