The New Toy..
« on: April 02, 2009, 01:33:16 PM »
So, here is my newest toy for predator hunting. As some know, I bought a scope I really like, but not for my AR, so I had to buy something to put the scope on right...

and here she be.

a Savage model 10, heavy barrel .223. The scope that is going on it is a Leopold VX III 6.5-20x40. I might still not get anything, but at least I will look like I know what I am doing. :chuckle: :bash:

Lets hear how she shoots after you get that sweet scope on, I hear those are great shooters right out of the box. Do you know the twist rate on the barrel, and what length? just curious.
God is great, Beer is good, people are crazy.

Twist rate is 1 to 9, just like my AR. Barrel length is 22 inches.

Heres a link to the review of the rifle.

I threw some camo 'tape' (no adhesive) around the scope of my Model 10. I've debated with myself about the bipod, and came to the conclusion that since I sit on a short stool while hunting coyotes, a home-made "bipod" (shooting sticks) was the better answer for me. Gun-mounted bipods didn't reach high enough (and saving money doesn't hurt).  I'll try to post a picture of my latest version of a bipod, but here's a sketch below.  I'd gotten tired of having  the shape of the "Vee"  at the top change from "too narrow" to "too wide", so I built a semicircular perch on one of the legs (no second leg projecting up from the pivot point).  No matter what the "spread angle", my fore stock rests nicely in it now.

Hey Doug, they make some camo shrink sleeve for scopes. I saw some on-line but can't remember where now.
Some people spend their entire life wondering if they made a difference. Marines don't have that problem.

Thanks for the tips guys. I saw some camo tape at joes the other day...will more than likely just wrap up some burlap like I do with my Tikka.

The only reason I would use bipods (for the most part) is so I can set my gun down and not lean it against a tree, etc. I never really shoot with them.  ;)
