Yet another thread likely to be locked for promoting illegal activity.  I'm not sure what the deal is lately, everything seems to go sideways.

ATV threads have always been heated, but I do ask for some temperance from those participating here.

FYI, driving around gates in Idaho is not illegal, they are much more atv friendly there.

:yeah:  That was my point.  And the reason its legal is because the whiners live in Wa state no in Idaho.  Outhouse, I don't know what to respond.  You obviously live in Wa!  Maybe its you who has lost the way, the compass of this USA and its freedoms, the integrity to stand for what is right.  Yup I would have been the guy throwing Tea in the Boston Harbor.

On a more mellow note, in summary, I support freedom of use to OUR public lands.  I choose to follow the laws so you wont see me riding wheelies behind closed Wa gates on FS lands.  I exercise my right to speak for freedoms both lost and given.  I will comment to the guy on atv "Ya know that's not allowed right?" and keep walking.  I wont be taking pics and plates or calling it in for poaching points like a slimeball hiding behind the law for my benefit.  I wont be whining about it either.  Yes it has happened to me several times.  Oh well, their choice to do that.

Idaho has roads where ATV use is not allowed....and probably has width restrictions

So just cuz you "can" drive around a gate doesn't mean it's legal...know the rules we all play by...its simple

:yeah: Correct and we do.  50" etc.  Some areas not open etc.  What area in west Wa has open roads/trails for atv use?  Beside the orv parks.  What about ID, or Co, or Mt, or Oregon, or Cal. or Canada?  Yup follow the tree hugginh liberal population for an easy answer.  Everything here is gated and or permits.  Its a bunch of ----.  I am sick of it.  I am cursed to remember what it used to be back when Wa had a Rep Gov. on occasion.  No coincidence people.

Some people have lost their ever loving minds and could care less about other people. Mudman, I'm not sure what to think about your statements. On one hand I agree with you about our rights being taken away on areas that are owned and paid for by the people.

But, on the other hand there's nothing worse than hiking in miles only to have a quad or motorcycle come by and not give a Shizzit about the rules or your hunt. They only care about themselves and getting away with cheating the system and us law abiding guys who work hard. And as far as your statement goes about buying a quad, a lot of us have them, but can't and won't use them around gates that don't allow access.

I'm to the point where I'm having to think harder and harder about my hunting areas and packing out my boned out elk 7-miles by myself, as I approach 6-decades. It's getting tougher, but I still do it. I don't call Sierra and beg to get access or drive my quad in illegally. I just get'er done and hurt for a few days.

And as someone mentioned, not all gated areas in Idaho have quad access, but I'm sure you could care less and just go around them ! Grab a pack board and get busy !!!!

Lots of mis information in this thread.

Just because the FS says something is illegal,  does not mean that it is. They have a long history of saying things are illegal, when they in fact do not have ANY law to back it up. Read the CFR's, they will confirm this.

For a FS road in WA St to be legally closed, it must be signed "Closed Road"

A Kelly Hump/Tank trap road is not illegal to use an atv/motorcycle on......it has to be posted closed with a sign.

Most areas of USFS are legal to ride an atv/motorcycle cross country...…..as long as you do not destroy the resources...…...which is nearly impossible to do, but the fact is it is legal.

READ THE CFR's!!!

So “some” pack an elk 7 miles!!  Sucks to be you!!!  Atv’s  are an evolution to hunting.   They greatly improve mobility, so to the haters you better not be using modern glass, guns, or use a 4 wheel drive truck!!

But I do agree no atv’s on closed trails!  But in Washington motorcycles can go anywhere! Why not atv’s wtf is the difference?
I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.

It doesn't matter what you think...

So, Mudman, say you owned a couple hundred acres of timbered land with roads you had to maintain out of your own pocket. Over a period of time people are going on your land, using these roads. Over a period of time garbage appears, mattress's, tv's and appliances are being dumped. New roads and trails are being made by irresponsible people on atv's that don't care about tearing up and destroying your land. Would you gate the roads to your property or just let it go? That's all I have.

Was walking down a tank-trapped road in the 560. I'd seen a lot of sign and getting a couple miles in behind two ponds was a really good prospect. I left a little late in the afternoon and had planned to stay until dark. As I approached my spot, I started to hear motors and then saw two ATVs coming toward me on the road, one, a large green Polaris. As soon as they saw me they turned around and took off in the other direction. Hunt ruined. I looked around and there were tracks and damage to the habitat everywhere because of all the rain we'd had. I knew where they were camped, went to the camp, and took pictures of the plates on their ATVs and trucks, which I gave to the FS.

I don't own toys; can't afford 'em. I don't care if people use them legally. But it chaps my a$$ when I hike in a couple of miles on a closed road and here comes a motorized vehicle. It's unethical, illegal, unsportsmanlike, and shows no concern for the environment or the reason that particular habitat is being protected. These guys don't understand the enjoyment of the woods or its value.
Crybaby.  As far as Im concerned it should be "OPEN"!!!  I don't support restrictions to public use on public lands.  Flame me I don't care, Im tired of this crap.  IF we still had freedoms and the gate didn't exist what would ya whine about.  Habitat destruction going around the gate?  Really?  Give me a break now your worried about dandelions damaged?  Don't hide behing the :legal" claim either.  It should and was legal at one time in past before freedoms were taken.  I spent childhood running around mnts and no old guy whined I was illegal behnd closed gate damaging floura.  That is my point.  Buy a darn quad and ride behind gates, support freedoms or quit whining.
The problem is most access is given in this state for non motorized hunting. So the way I see it is you have no respect for the property owner that has asked you to follow those rules for access and probably shut down access for everybody in the near future. You say to support freedom ,Well the property owner has the freedom not to allow anyone on there land.
Threads like this just piss me off and the truth that it happens more every year.I do own a four wheeler and rarely use it to hunt.Crap like this makes a person want to go around and bust every gate open for the poor man can just drive in and park his truck right beside your four wheeler. But respect for the land owner and the wildlife hold me back.

I own and enjoy riding quads, but there's a time and place for this activity.    Riding on closed roads isn't it.  There are plenty of hunt areas with green dot roads for those wanting to road hunt.  That's not my thing.  I appreciate that there are areas I can hike in and get away from the motor vehicles.  I hope that never changes.

Not once did I say I ride around the closures.  Read the thread, I don't.  I am talking about public lands.  Some have migrated to a private lands topic out of the blue it seems.  What ya all talking about?  If I owned 100 acres is comparable to what USFS lands?  But on that topic WEYCO comes to mind and the agreement they made in purchase of said lands and public access as well as tax breaks for said purposes.  Once again we are screwed... My ATVS have combined 85 miles on em so I don't think I have been riding around to many gates eh...  Read carefully amigos, then comment logically.  I can be a lawful citizen but still stand up and yell that I am tired of this crap.  I am tired of everything being taken away little by little and the stupid reasons used to justify the thefts.  I am tired of ignorant misinformed people supporting it as well.  Enough.  PC can go out the window.  Whine?  I call ya Whiner.  Like it or don't.  Christ sake Russia and Canada has more freedoms on the lands then our lemming society.  There is a reason I not hunted Wa for last few years.....Its messed up..
