stupid rifle scope question
« on: September 24, 2019, 10:12:24 PM »
My son has a rifle that came with a Nikon Scope as past of the package (Savage Axis, but that doesn't matter).

When he went shooting, he found that his scope was now really blurry.
Taking a look revealed that back end of the scope had basically unscrewed, so screwed it back tight.

QUESTIONS:
* Does this in any way compromise the functionality of this scope?
* Any chance it will now fog up in cold weather?

Thanks,

Can you elaborate on what you mean by the " back of the scope"?  Perhaps it would help if you could provide the exact make and model of the scope.  Also, have you tried calling Nikon?

Did it separate, or was just loose? There is generally a focus adjustment with what is basically a lock nut.

1)   I'm sure it's their cheapest scope.....   It came on a Savage package.
I'm looking at it right now and can't find any identifier for what model Nikon it is........
I looked everywhere.
It does have the BDC emblem on the back.

2)   It is only the farthest back section that came loose.    It won't screw all the way off, but there are probably 10 rotations of threading and it was very loose.

3)  I don't think that compromises the sealed part of the scope??????

4)  I spent a little time on the Nikon site but couldn't find anyplace to submit a rifle scope question.

thanks,

It did not (will not) separate.

It just came very loose.....   to the point that the scope was super blurry.

When looking through the scope at an object at 50 yards or so while turning it, can you discern the object and/or the reticle getting clearer at some point?

Not sure.

It was dark when he brought it over.

I'm planing to shoot tomorrow, so I'm going to take it with me and see how it behaves.

Thanks for the help/thoughts/questions.

Hopefully it works well tomorrow.

My biggest concern (assuming it's clear tomorrow) is whether it would fog up under hunting conditions.
Is that the right thing to worry about here?
