But somehow, hunting is getting better in Idaho because the State has been trimming the wolf packs.  At least that is the common wisdom shared right here at Hunt Washington.

When USFWS were discussing bringing wolves into YNP they had several types and flavors of wolves to choose from.  The closest genetic match to the native timber wolf is the eastern wolves from Michigan and areas, yet they choose the Mackenzie wolves because they were 30% larger on average and would go after the Bison.  It was always the Bison that did the most damage in the park to the stream banks causing erosion.

wolves will be wolves

Instead of curing the parks Bison problem, they went after the Elk.  Bison numbers skyrocketed while Elk numbers plummeted.
Wolves quickly found that Elk were far easier and safer prey.  wolves will always go after the easier and safer prey.

Domestic livestock is the easiest and safest prey.

It will get worse, especially here in Washington as our deer population and elk population continue to decline wolves will seek the easiest and safest prey.   Western Washington will feel it worse than we did in here in Eastern WA

Hopefully you’re right because folks over here still don’t get it.
