Spot X
« on: October 01, 2019, 01:47:09 PM »
Bought one, set it up. Seems to be really glitchy, some texts go thru fast, some slow, some not at all ( from my front yard so no obstructions). Anybody have these issues? Got them resolved? Did I waste my money?

I have the Spot X. I have had no issues other than the high hunt. Being down in the valleys with tall mountains blocking the signal in certain spots was an issue. I do know for a fact my hunting partner used his Garmin Inreach SE in the same area with zero issues. I will see how mine does in northern BC.

You summed it up.
I have the same issues with my Inreach.
I can be standing in the wide open, in my yard and the thing blinks red instead of green.
Bizarre.
Eventually they send but far from the tech you expect today.

I went the other direction and got the Inreach Explorer plus.  I like the fact that it gives you confirmation that the message was delivered.  Sometimes it's instant other times it takes a few minutes to go thru.  Haven't had an issue with it not sending, even in dense tree cover (just takes a little longer)

Does Inreach and Spot use the same satellites?

When I say they went thru fast I mean 1-5 minutes, slow is 15-30 minutes.....I was texting myself, phone in the other hand, my daughter and wife in the house, just all random times for sending and receiving or not getting them especially for a communication device used for safety primarily. Anyone talk with their customer service before?

You can also set the check frequency and that helps but eats more battery faster.

I have sent some texts and haven't recieved any.  Right in my front yard.  Tracking is fine.  Not inReach and Spot do not use the same satellites.

No. SPOT runs off Globalstar satellites while Garmin devices run off the Iridium satellite network.

The new Spot X you can actually type out text messages like a phone.  All other fun ruons work on mine like tracking functions and check in
