Probably left it next to their rig and drove off.
Yep, either that or put it on the roof and drove off, so that it bounced off of the road. I did that with a bow but it only scratched the finish a bit as it bounced on the pavement.
You would not believe how many times with how many items I have put something on the roof and driven off, and more often, put it down beside the vehicle and driven off.
I have an iron rule now that ANYTHING I take off or put down before putting it in the vehicle goes on the hood or windshield. No exceptions. Cup of coffee? On the hood. GPS? On the windshield. Rifle, fly rod, daypack, jacket...? On the hood.
