Got a ML Elk Tag and No Idea What to Do With It?
« on: September 30, 2019, 09:56:17 PM »
Not me, you silly. My normal partner cant go this year due to his work canceling his leave (dang LEO’s). I’ve gotten my Idaho bull already but will be trying to pad my freezer a bit more with a WA ML bull, call me greedy. If one of you young bucks, newer to the elk hunting thing, would like to join me on a 6 day ML hunt and perhaps learn a bit, send me a PM. Not guaranteeing anything but I’ll be smoke-pole hunting in an area (first ever ML elk hunt for me) that I’ve traditionally got into them during stick and string hunts over the years. The only thing I’ll require is that you never hunt this spot again unless I invite you. It’ll be a minimalistic base camp...no wall tent, no fancy meals, bring your own lodging, gear, etc., and be in good enough shape to hike daily and pack meat when necessary.  RJ

Hope you find someone that honors your spot and doesn't show up the following year with their buddies. Had it happen to me, never hunted with them again.

And great offer for someone

Wow what an offer!  I wish I was 25-30 years younger.  Some lucky hunter will be in for a treat.

Good luck WapitiTalk1

I'd almost just go to learn something without a tag. If only I wasn't leaving for ID in a week and a half...

You are "more than welcome" to join me buddy.  I'm leaving on FRI to set up a small camp and will hunt SAT thru the following FRI (if needed).  If you can swing a handful of days, let me know and I'll send you the coordinates.  I do understand getting ready for your Idaho hunt though; heck, it took me days to just recover and clean/stow gear from my spud state hunt.  My WA ML hunt spot is probably about 4 1/2 hours from your ranch.  There should be some meaningful interactions between me and the elk occurring next week  ;).

Great offer  you are more trusting than me though :chuckle:

I love seeing this type of offer. I have done this twice before Myself. I had a great time bringing along a new hunter each time.
I gained a new hunting partner and a great friend out of it. He has been nothing but respectful of My best spot. Never brought another person there yet.
I encourage more people to do this same thing.

This is an amazing offer from a guy that will help you and teach you something about Elk.  Having been part of his camp in ID a few years I will tell you he is a good guy to slog thru the woods with and spend time in camp with.

You got my # RJ, let me know if you are out there solo and need help packing out.  I will make sure my boots and pack are ready!

I here ya Karl.  There will be a short but crystal clear conversation with whomever I accept to join me.  It is not the best W WA ML spot in the state I'm sure, but, it does hold elk which is all I need to get er' done.  We'll see if anybody contacts me over the next few days.  I don't have a problem hunting solo at all, but, as I get a bit longer in the tooth.... those pack outs are sure better with two than one  :chuckle:

Thanks for the offer. The Mrs. wouldn't be very happy with me if I was gone that much. Good luck and keep your powder dry!
