Not very familiar with Dan Agnew - does he do much with SCI or other groups? Does dumping an s-ton of money into a native tribe really help public herds?

Not trying to stir a pot, but I really am curious here.  I heard some rumblings about a lot of guys who just pay for hunts like these where the money doesn't really go toward "conservation" like our contributions do.

If I had the finances to do it you'd see my smiling face behind every big animal on every hunt I had time to go on every single year (and that my wife would let me get away to go do  :chuckle: ). I'm not sure I'd go on a single spike elk hunt in Eastern Washington again.

:yeah:
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

I was there on that hunt. I have been going there for over 30 years. Some think you just sit on a meadow and wait for 400 plus inch bulls to walk out every hunt but it is not like that.  These bulls are wild free ranging elk.  It is a real hunt.  The hunters face the same issues we all face such as drought conditions and poor rut activity. Many hunters choose not to fill their tags some years.

Yes these hunts cost a lot of money but we should all be mindful for all the great conservation work that is done on the San Carlos.  This would not happen if not for Dan. His generosity benefits the elk population as well as the population of the San Carlos who I consider my friends. It is the best place in the United States to hunt elk.  They limit the number of tags so the elk can reach maturity.
I think Dan and the San Carlos Department of Wildlife should be applauded for all the great work they do.

Thank you for chiming in. I appreciate and agree with your perspective. I don't understand how people can complain about how a guy spends the money he earned.

Dan Agnew has a couple bulls at RMEF and I'm pretty sure is a generous donor.
