Island Blacktails, harvest photos
« on: October 07, 2019, 03:10:05 PM »
So, I put together photos of Decatur bucks that I have taken since 2009 for another site and figured I would share here. 2010 photo was not found and in 2015 I lost mine shot ten minutes after my son got his first one. One year, before they changed the second deer tag to doe only, I got two bucks.

Enjoy!

Right on, good lookin island bucks! Going to assume you own land there? I have discovered that’s its just about 100% private after drawing second deer as my 3rd or 4th choice  :bash:

 :chuckle:

He bagged deer his first two years trying but then missed three in one day, two were my fault for giving him bad distance estimates. He was discouraged and didn't hunt last year. Not sure if he will this year either. :-(  I told him he should be grateful he had the opportunity to miss three bucks in one day as many don't see a shooter all season....

The forked horns genes are strong on that island.

Nice Bucks, do you see any bigger than a 2 point? Just curious, I'd be more than happy with some of those 2 pts, and are they body size small. Interesting too see how they grow in certain areas. Congrats to you and your son.

Oh ruined I can see how that would discourage him. My brother had a good/bad shot on a deer a few years ago that turned him off to archery but he's getting back in it. Hope your son does as well.

Occasionally, but the fork genes are definitely strong here. I have a 3X3 plus one eyeguard and a 3X3 plus two eyegaurds on one camera this year.  A neighbor shot a 4X4 with eyegaurds this year as well.

Here is my wife's largest one, archery.

They are smaller bodied than the mainland.  An average doe will provide about 27 pounds of meat and my four biggest bucks have all processed out at 54 pounds of meat.
