Got this one Sunday afternoon. Seems like it gets tougher every year. One might think I am a bad hunter but I hear vey few shots fired anymore so I am not the only one struggling. 9 days hunting and this was only the 12th deer seen.
Not proud of the shot I made but the moment the scope covers came off the lenses were instantly plastered with rain. I had a very difficult time seeing horns which should have been very apparent. First shot was high, second in the shoulder and I could tell he was hit bad but with only a hundred feet to the brush I put a third into his shoulder to put him down.
Then about 2 miles with the cart.
I was really kicking myself for that shoulder shot but surprisingly little meat wasted.
In the freezer so the works done now. On to elk!

Nice buck Bruce.
It's the same in our neck of the woods. Opening day you would hear at 5-6 shots at first light. Last year I didn't hear one shot all day. This year I did hear 2 shots.  Its definitely not what it was even 5 years ago.

Less hunters in the woods?  The stats say yes, though on my evening hunt last night, I got surrounded by five or six other rigs coming into the area after I settled in to a spot.  I was expecting to have the place to myself.   I agree though, many fewer shots at first and last light than in recent history.

Nice buck Humptulips!  Congrats!

Nice deer bigbore40 jr.  I don't see many spikes that tall in my neck of the woods.
