Springfield xdm 10mm
« on: October 15, 2019, 09:31:03 AM »
So I’m thinking about getting a Springfield xdm 10mm. Can’t decide if I want 4.5 or 5.5. I’m gonna be using it for a woods gun mostly. Also what all around ammo would you guys recommend trying?   Thanks for the suggestions.

Ive got the 5.25 barrel and shoot Hornady 180gr XTP.  Very nice shooting, soft recoil, accurate.  Happy as a clam with mine.  Its in a Diamond D Alaskan Guide Holster.

I would stay away from the XD. Outsourced parts and questionable reliability.

I personally run a Glock 40 MOS.
No I'm not a Glock fan boy

Underwood ammo is what you want. They load 200gr XTP's pushing 1250fps

They also offer a 115 gr Lehigh penetrator going 1700fps!

I would like to see your source on information.
I have heard nothing but great reviews, and having multiple XDs, I have never had an issue with either of them.

Go shoot both and pick the size that you like best.
I would go for the 4.5, but the 5.5 might be more comfortable for many while shooting the 10MM.

Its 5.25............and if you check real world testing of premium hand gun ammo you will see a lot of the results advertised (esp. velocity) are exagerated.  The hornady ammo did well in independant testing.

It came from the HS 2000 and when it was called that, you couldn't give them away. And SAI has been known to source parts from Brazil, China , Taiwan and I believe Korea as well. And as for the Underwood ammo, it delivered as advertised through my Chrono in both 115gr and 200gr.

I have heard great stuff about underwood, but never used it. I shoot buffalo bore 220 gr hard cast out of my Glock 20 and love it. I have killed two black bears with it, one shot each.

The XD is the Springfield Armory licensed version of the HS 2000.
Both are very good pistols. Like any pistol they can have issues, but so far from my experience they have been exemplary in quality and reliability.

While I have replaced the triggers (Powder River Precisions for my XD’s and XDs’s) on every pistol I have owned, they have a decent factory trigger. You do not have to do spring, striker,  or do barrel replacements like some others to shoot extremely well.

I bought this pistol and like it a lot so far. I really like the gun fighter chest holster too but downside is cant run my Bino harness at the same time. I load up I think its Double Tap ammo 230gr cast bullets for 4 legged gritters and Hornaday 185 HP for the others. I also have a 40 xd sub compact & xds 45 and have never had an issue with any of them........the 10mm has a big grip thats my only part I dont like.

I have a XDM 10mm with 4.5 barrel. I'm not sure of the round count but its at least 200+ through it, it's been flawless so far and shoots good. Brand of ammo hasn't mattered a bit. Not sure about the out soarcing of parts but all three of my Springfields run without issue.

Cheers,
G

I have the 4.5” barrel. No issues with factory or reloads. Part of the reason I chose the 4.5 was because I read where the 5.25 barrel had a unusual sized dove tail for the rear site, which meant finding height sights difficult. I also didn’t like the slide cut out. For my purposes I didn’t see a reason for the longer barrel.

I’ve had the G20, G29 and EAA Witness. I like shooting the XD much better. Th Glocks suffer from unsupported chambers which lead to the Glock Smile. Also the Glock barrels are supposedly not compatible with lead bullets. Maybe these aren’t issues for most when shooting 50-100 rounds a year of factory ammo, but for a hand loader who shoots several hundred a year it makes a lot of difference. I’ve also tried several of the aftermarket barrels for the Glocks but found none of them reliable.

This is something I have an issue with as well. May need to find a way to run a holster or my binos off my pack for next season.

Depending on what pack you have, you can run crossdraw, I do this on most of my packs. Does not get hit by my rifle when slung, and I can still use my bino harness.

No, you can't. The 460 needs a breech face sized for 45 ACP, not the smaller 10mm breech face. Gotta start with a 45.

Shooting an XD tactical converted to 45 super. 285's over 1500 . Friend of mine introduced me to it a few years ago . Love the XD . Zero issues with it , more than 2000 rounds of supers and acp down the barrel . Thought about a 10 just for s&g ! Used to shoot Glock , still got a bunch of brass  somewhere.....
