Boykins?

I'm not going to argue the semantics of this breed vs. that breed. I will say this: Boykins were bred exclusively with Chessies and American Water Spaniels. (Some breeders injected other breeds suchs as springers and GSP's later on creating issues not desired ) and if anyone is going to argue those two breeds are not cold weather capable I question their education. And if anyone thinks it is 85 degrees in South Carolina during duck season needs to go to SC during duck season.
Boykins are touted as hot weather dogs but they are conditioned for it, the same way we should all condition our dogs prior to more extreme weather.

Or... Next weekend (nov1-3) we are having our annual Boykin-Only hunt at Potholes. We are featuring a guided goose hunt with Echternkamp's and will be doing a Duck hunt Sunday. Some may opt to just hunt for quail and pheasant. We are staying at Mardon Resort. Feel free to join us just to be around the dogs and owners. Bring beer.

Wow what an amazing invite and amazing opportunity for Cammando to really get to know this breed that he is interested in. I hope that the dates work out and I can't wait to see some pics and hear about how this turns out. Really cool of you Pens Fan

We do this every year. We had one for last season in March of this year because of scheduling issues. It was about 4 degrees and we held it at Cooke Canyon. There was two feet of snow and we had mostly pups there who were introduces to birds for their very first time. Two pups were under 6 months old. They did great for a 2-1/2 hunt.
Carl, you are more than welcome to attend, as is anyone who wants to see these dogs.

How are Boykins at retrieving geese in water? I don’t target Canada’s that much but will pop one of it flies close enough.

Yup, i think it's actually easier for them. There was a guy who was hunting up north where you can shoot trumpeters, i believe. His Boykin retrieved in water and tried dragging it up to shore. He didn't have anyways to take video and he only git the pic afterwards.

We didnt get many geese at our Boykin-only hunt two weeks ago, but here's a pic of one retrieve.

I have a pair of American water spaniels , both have been completely covered in ice to the point I had to break icicles off their fur, still couldn't keep them out of the water. Like the boykin, smaller than a lab eat less, crap smaller and in my opinion ten times the nose for any upland hunting you like to do. Can't say enough good about the aws in one post and assume the boykin is similar other than the double coat.
I made a awesome one week trip to Virginia for my female and another week long trip to Kentucky for my male from a kennel called endless limits. They breed their dogs with goose hunting in mind And from their Facebook page looks like they kill  hundreds a season.
I always think it's nice to see something other than labs once in awhile around here.
