Just Posted A33, on Page 2 of the Cougar Calling Stories Pages...

A cat NOT acting Cat-Like!

Here's the link to the page...

https://rain-shadow.com/cougar-calling-stories-2

That's a crazy one. I think cougars kill more coyotes than we realize. I heard one get killed by a cougar last year. I could hear a coyote scream and gurgle then go silent while I was deer hunting. 2 days later I was hunting deer in that exact spot and watched 2 does snort wheezing and stomping at the tree line for 2 hours until it got too dark to see. 2 more days go by and my buddy killed a cougar in there 40 yards from him while he was watching for deer. The cat was curious and was walking in to check him out and he caught it out of the corner of his eye. It was a small female 90-100lbs.

I don't think they're afraid of the Canine, I think they're intimidated by the dog's enthusiasm, not the dog itself.

I agree. I have a buddy who calls coyotes and uses lots of vocals. He's had bears come charging in to coyote locater and pup distress sounds and had a small cougar come in to check it out (out of season and had to let it walk). I really think cats just hate coyotes for combination of reasons. As said, noise, their enthusiam, and probably the fact they eat their cache. It makes me wonder if there is something there to benefit from while calling cats.

I built a page on my website and linked my old re-telling videos, and a couple on-site videos, and even one kill on camera (kinda) video as examples of what I'm looking for.

Enjoy, and please let me know if you can do a selfie interview and send it to me for posting!

PSA: If anybody has any trouble opening the website to read the new stories, you might have to go to your browser settings and find and old cookie associated with rain-shadow.com and delete it. It was somehow tied to another domain that I let expire. I don't get it, but I know it works if you are getting an expired domain message. rain-shadow.com is still live, just need to clear out the old cobwebs!

Thanks!

Figured I'd TTT this topic .
Might be interesting tonight to see what GMU is still open after midnight.
With recent commission and season changes might be the year to get after it.
You know what I'm saying,Time for some Ricky Bobbie.

That would suck.
I only went a few times really dedicated to cougar hunting.
Guess I'll see later, wanted a few more turns to bat before it was shut down.
Guess I shouldn't of been so lazy.

I been itching to get out, but I’m recovering from a total knee replacement this winter, not quite ready to walk in wet slippery conditions just yet, so I’ll keep to hiking in Costco, malls, and an occasional Walmart lol

Looks like most are still open.

I only see 245,250, 564 and 568 being closed.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

I bought some cheapo hand calls this fall and last week I had a big tom cruise past me at 200 yards without stopping.  I followed it a mile and blew it out of its bed without ever seeing it. Now I've got a brand new Foxpro and am about to throw down on some of Rainshadow's recordings and will get back out there! I know some of you guys are getting it done with hand calls but my spazyness and short attention span haven't been doing me any favors.

Thanks all for the advice above.

Looks like gmus 169, 172, 181, 186 closed. They were in a group hunt area, all four gmus combined under one quota

Typical wdfw... Units with likely the highest lion population in the state are closed when guys actually would go target them....

I'm confused. Is there cougar hunting and this is a "cougar" GMU now with a single quota, or have they shut cougar hunting down completely?
