Congrats and thanks for sharing the photos. That’s an impressive bull.

Ok first I want to thank everyone on this forum that helped me out, and have made some friends because of it. also a huge thanks to my buddy's that showed up to camp to help scout and of course my two boys who were there the whole time and with me during hunt and pack out. I started by scouting many times during the summer made camp 10 days before season. Was there the whole time scouting during the days prior to hunt trying my best not to mess with the bow hunters. only found 1 huge masher bull during theses days and a bunch of ok nice bulls learning the country and talking to almost every bow hunting camp up there and that's a lot of camps. All of them were cooler than *censored* all welcoming me and giving much needed intel, thanks to all of you crazy @#$%ers. The opener my youngest and a buddy started at light got back after dark and only saw 2 small bulls, figured by onx tracker we went 15 miles. my oldest and buddy scouted other areas. 2nd day pretty much say but diff area. Now I'm getting a little worried, so 3rd morn before light went up up up bugles all around. I called in a nice bull had safety off the bull just behind a tree I had a great 30 yard shot and pulled Triger. CLICK what. pulled bolt back and no round in chamber WHAT. my boy started to laugh at me. the bull walks out from behind tree was a nice 6x6 but not the bull I thought he was. The elk gods were lookin after me or something? let him walk away. UP UP UP by know 9:30 time to take a break dangling our legs over a shale cliff listening to a bull at the bottom screaming out comes 3 cows in a hurry around 800 to 900 yards down at the bottom of a stand of timber, around a min later this bull walks out the boy ranged it at 650 yards on my belly I go, gave a bugle he stopped. Turned the huskemaw turret to 650 no wind touched off the 338 win mag. ELK DOWN. just below us another bull pops out were glassing him when I look over and see the bull I just shot is back up I sent another round down and this time he did not get back up. just getting down to him and the pack out kicked our buts but this hunt has been one of the most epic fun hunt my boys and I have had. THANKS again every one.

The drying period is 60 days. The taxidermist should allow you to take the horns home. Then bring them back once he’s ready to mount.

Now that's making the most out of a tag. Beautiful bull, congrats!

Great story Mr. W.

That is one bad bruiser!   A lifetime hunt and memory for sure!

I’ve watched some of the biggest bulls of my life walk through and the crosshairs of my scope in the clockum.  Such a hard tag to get, I am thrilled for you to have been blessed to have the time and effort to fill it!

I may have missed the post on it,  but does anyone know if Joe got his cow points back?

A giant congratulations to you and your team on punching that tag!

I would definitely bring the horns home until the taxidermist needs them. They are probably perfectly safe. But When I had my Dayton bull mounted the taxidermist passed away. Fortunately he told me to hang onto the horns until he needed them. I was also very fortunate to get my cape back. Others weren't so lucky. I know of another taxidermist shop that burn down and another that had several mounts stolen. If the horn are in your possession stuff may still happen. But at least you will have it on your control.

Ugggggg....  eating 22 points.  Can’t hurt to take it to DFW and plead your case.....

In any event,  even if they tell you to pack sand, it hurts less having that big boy on the wall  :IBCOOL:
