What’s your Go To sunny weather blacktail tactic ??
« on: October 26, 2019, 02:17:23 PM »
So what’s your go-to blacktail tactic in this nice stretch of weather for the last week of modern rifle? You’ve got sun up to sun down out in the blacktail woods, how are you hunting it?

Find a small patch of grass in the reprod, be still and quiet while waiting until the sun is getting low enough to start casting some good shadows.

Haven’t blacktail hunted in a lot of years. But if it was sunny I didn’t even bother.

I typically like to get in and hunt the timber, but didn't have much luck today. Didn't see a single deer this morning.

Climb up in one of my tree stands in a thick brushed core area and hope today is the day. I’ve  harvested more bucks in nice weather than nasty weather. Can usually hear them coming too. This is my favorite week of the season, good or bad weather.

I'd be sitting 1st hour after daylight and an hour before dark and probably still hunting to try and jump a buck during the rest of the day.  The rain and wind helps us be quiet but you may just have to go even slower than the 3 steps and glass drill.  If I could find a clear cut that I could watch an opposite hillside and it had good cover, I may sit there all day depending on the sign and deer I've possibly seen there before.

Lastly, if I happen to have found a rub line this season, I would be sitting with the wind in my face watching it from daylight until dark.  Eventually, he's gonna show up during daylight.

I'm not sure there is a right answer, but I'll be glassing reprod Mon - Thurs.

This is all great advice. So I think I’ll watch the clearcuts the first hour or two ready to pounce. If nothing pops out by 10:00 am I think I’ll still hunt either the timber or some reprod in hopes of a close encounter. I’ve got 4 days to hunt sun up till sun down this week.  I’m determined!

I’d suggest sitting and binocing till eleven, harvested and have seen a lot of mature bucks between 10-11.
