Kids gear help

Used to hunt ducks with my old man quite a bit growing up but kind of.fell away from it when I moved out and then really fell away after my dog died. Haven't really been out in around ten years.

My oldest is four and we went out and walked our old duck hunting property on the opener to show a buddy of mine around as he was interested in hunting it this year and my boy was super into watching the ducks fly and wants to go out and actually hunt it.

I'm all geared up for myself but I don't have anything for the kid. My younger children are staggered that his younger brother and sister can probably use whatever gear I get for him as well so I'm not opposed to spending money on waiters and jackets and whatnot but I've got no idea where to start on what's good and what's bad for youth gear. Anyone have any pointers on a good brand or even a good place to go to look at stuff that has a good kids selection? My wife does online shopping if we need to go that route but I'm more of a brick and mortar guy myself. Thanks for any help.

Maybe try Sportsmans Warehouse or a Cabelas if there is one in your area?

The Academy house brand Magellan Pintail bibs and jacket work great for my kids.  They are basically camo snow bibs and jacket that will go overtop of whatever other warm clothes you have for them.  So far my kids have been very confortable in them and have fun hanging out with me in the duck blind.  They wear some bogs boots, a camo beanie and gloves too.  I don't hunt anywhere that they have to cross much water at all.  I can carry them over any little creeks if I need to.

We just picked up some kids waders from sportsman’s warehouse. They are nothing fancy but they will keep my boys dry and warm. They are just green in color. They did have some camo ones just not in my little guys sizes.

Whatever boots you buy, make sure they are big. That way they can wear multiple pairs of socks and/or add foor warmers.
Get the gloves that are also mittens. Mittens keep their fingers warmer. Some have a slot for putting a hand warmer in them.
I used snow gear when starting. If wading was needed, I carried my boys or you can use a decoy sled to pull them around. If hunting in water, get them a flotation device
Thick coveralls work great for kiddos. Warmth is way more important that waterproof  . If the kids are warm, I could easily just throw a big thin waterproof jacket or poncho over the warm clothes.

PS - lots of snacks and even their own duck call are helpful. Let them pull the jerk cord if using one

I used to buy my kids the cheap neoprene's and walmart sells really cheap camo youth pants.  Just put those over the waders.  Worked great.  Got them a little big and just had them double up on heavy wool socks.  That way they can grow into them.  And used cheap walmart boots a couple sizes to big to wear over...  Not the stylish option, but very effective and reasonable.  BTW, Cabelas is terrible for waders now..  No selection especially for woman and kids.

The used market has quite a bit, since kids don't stay in their sizes for very long. Keep an eye on the thrift and classified markets...… Because kids high-end outdoor clothing isn't any cheaper than adult sizes!!! It's ridonkulous! Tons of great stuff out there, but it's soooo expensive.

I have at least one more little coming up through the ranks or I'd make you a deal on a bushel basketful or two! I have a skad of it, bought most of it second hand. (7 kids, and I used to outfit a couple nephews and nieces.) I'm sure you'll have a pile of it after awhile!
