« on: November 01, 2019, 02:12:51 PM »

Yes you can shoot buckshot and slugs in it.  Never shoot anything without a choke however (assuming it has removable choke tubes).

And I'd assume the most wide open choke you have?

With buck shot I’ve gotten my best patterns with imp,Cyl. To imp, mod.  Go much tighter and they start  donut holing.   Haven’t shot enough slugs to give any advice there.

Thanks for the replies.  Looks like I need to shop for a choke.  Only have the choke that came with it.  Has 3 dots and says turkey/predator.  Would use for BT and WT

Buckshot and rifles slugs(NOT sabot slugs) should be fine to shoot from most chokes, you’ll probably get best results from an I/C or modified choke though.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

I used to shoot slugs all the time smooth bore with modified choke. Killed dozens of deer in Il with this combo. Buck shot I just patterned out of my turkey gun with imp. Modified choke, that was the best pattered. I settled on #4 buck for coyotes out of that gun. My buddies 870 shot 1” groups at 75 yards smooth bore/modified choke using the blue box federal.

When you label it as a turkey gun make sure you don't have a turkey choke on the gun. Standard chokes are OK but some of those turkey chokes are extra tight and I fear you might have an issue shooting slugs or buckshot through them.

  Currently have the Turkey/Predator Super Full (extended).  Ordered  the 3 choke bundle.  Hope it comes in next few days.  Hoping to use it late WT.

They recommend the improved cylinder IC for shooting slugs.

I tried one those and it produced zero improvement over my IC choke with foster type slugs.  Maybe it works better with sabot slugs.

I’ve been using an over/under with an IC in top barrel loaded with a slug and a MOD in the bottom with buckshot.  I haven’t fired the buckshot at an animal yet but the slug as worked fine.  Good thick woods setup.
