Fall turkey hunt
« on: October 23, 2019, 10:55:28 PM »
Hi all,

I’m really new to the turkey woods and had my first spring turkey hunt this year in 117. Unfortunately I did not harvest a bird, but I learned a lot and found a couple good spots for next spring. I’m heading to N ID next week for a work trip and was thinking about stopping along the way to try and bag a bird. Is anyone willing to share knowledge if the turkeys are largely still up in pub land or if they’ve moved down closer to town/private land for the winter? I’d appreciate any help or recommendations!

They are still scattered around.  Fall hunting is pretty easy, the birds tend to be less wary and you can take hens.

Good luck!

Knock on some doors.   Most farmers will most likely allow hunters to hunt turkeys.   They are pests to them.   I would take part of a day and drive around.   I am sure your going to find some turkeys.

If you keep your eyes open you should have no problems locating flocks of turkeys this time of year.  With OnX, you should be able to quickly figure out what house belongs to what property and knock on the right doors.

Look on the WDFW website for hunt with written permission areas and email team Spokane for the nuisance list in that area. You can get at least a half dozen private places to hit on your way over. Don't forget to pull up Idaho's info. They have $5 tags for North Idaho, you just need an Idaho small game.
