Disabled vet hunter looking to try turkey hunting next spring
« on: November 10, 2019, 11:46:13 AM »
Picked up a 20 gauge benelli nova. I’m guessing it should be sufficient for taking a Tom. Have a few calls box and slate. Just looking to try some new hunting. Any one have any idea of loads or chokes to maybe try. I think a full choke may work just will have to try patterning it first. Is eastern Washington still your best bet at getting a bird? Thanks for any help hunted some for turkeys when I got out of service about 18 yrs ago. I see they have a fall season as well will try that as well if they still have it next year.

20 gauge would work fine.  6,5,4 shot is whatbus best.  Full choke for sure.  Wife has a Benelli 20 and knocked down 2 birds with on shot.  Pattern your gun for sure. I have used Jelly head and Primos turkey chokes.  If tou plan on using none toxic or tungsten shot make sure the choke can shoot that.  NE part of the state is best shot to get a turkey.  Keep your eye open I do turkey hunting seminars here on the west side of state.

You can get four turkey tags and small game license right now for fall. They are grouped up in big numbers in Stevens County. Read the fall turkey hunting threads if you are interested. Best, 253shotgunner
