All those hunters and no mass shootings
« on: November 05, 2019, 12:44:54 PM »
Saw an interesting article the other day...during the last weekend of October there were an estimated 25,000,000 men, women, sons and daughters across America's fields and forests hunting deer...all carrying loaded rifles, including AR-15's and a host of other semi-automatic calibers. And, NOT ONE MASS SHOOTING! Enough said.

Well, I wouldn't go around using those numbers, but there were a lot of people out hunting. Hunters comprise 5% of the nation's population in the US, which means that we have approximately 16M hunters total in the US. And not all of them were hunting at the same time. Not all of them have deer tags or elk tags. I understand and agree with the point but statistics will work for the other side of the issue if you don't have accurate ones.  :twocents:

Well, hunters tend to have more respect for gun safety than other people with guns.  In my experience anyway.  And might be more apt to 'do the right thing'.  But there is a lot more gun violence in this country than others.  Hard to get around that.

Unless of course, you're a deer or an elk.  :yike:

What if you just call it violence?

Australia's murder rate remains unchanged since they collected all of the guns and during the same period, US gun murders have fallen by about 30% and gun purchases have risen by about the same. US gun death statistics are skewed by the fact that over half of the reported deaths are by suicide. England is experiencing rampant knife attacks and is now enforcing knife bans. Drunk driving, botched surgeries, opioids, hands and feet all kill more people in the US each year than guns. We don't restrict the sale of cars, surgeon's scalpels, or shoes...because the tool used is not the reason for the death. We have more gun violence due mainly to our most populated cities, all liberal-run, and most of which have strict gun control. Take those cities and suicides out of the equation and our statistics show a whole different picture of gun violence in America You should probably turn off your network news channels and do some reading.
