No weather this year, and deer pop. is way down. Guessing it will be a tougher year up there. I hiked 12 miles in a diff area today, glassed a multitude of private land, total deer seen 7

I saw that many on my way to chelan the other morning.  Clearly we need to hunt the highway.

Haha it's that time of year again  ;) should be a fun late hunt regardless. Might have some weather moving in next week. Maybe some snow will come.

I use to hunt these areas almost 30 years ago so I know the deer population is down, but people make these areas out to be like you are walking on the moon with a vast expanse of nothing . I’ve chased mule deer in NE WA and SE WA the last 7 years . If you wanna see no Muleys then look into those parts. I headed into my hunt after reading people’s dismal accounts on the area thinking this might be tough to turn up a buck.  To my surprises I haven’t seen so many mule deer in WA since I hunted over that way almost 30 years ago. Every hillside every where I went had deer littered across them. Every morning and evening sit I couldn’t keep count how many deer I saw. Some areas I never even could finish glassing it before light ran out due to how many deer turned up. This was all National Forest areas.

What people describe is desolation in all areas.  I was amazed by how many deer I saw . Hell I’d take that all day long every year . Problem isn’t deer numbers it’s people out blasting every 1-and 2 yr old legal buck . There is almost no escapement .

I hear ya. I am just not seeing the deer that I should be seeing. 6 days so far of hunting dawn to dark and slim pickings. Pretty sure I am going to have to have my binos surgically removed from my face after 10 more days of this. I have however seen more 2xs than I can count.

Could be seeing more deer in Alta than expected due to most of the deer having moved down from the higher elevations, and they're now more concentrated. Regular season in October sure you'd see a lot less.

With all due respect huntnnw, I don't think people who know the Methow are saying its "like you are walking on the moon with a vast expanse of nothing", there are deer there but numbers are slipping and have been for the last 20-25 years. Ive hunted the Methow for 55 plus years and my family has hunted it since 1917. My great grandparents did counts every year and we have continued that, some of the old journal pages are un-readable now, some are lost and some are still being searched for but one thing is for certain, this herd numbers WAY less than half of what it was in its hay-days when it ranged between 35,000 to 40,000. We just got back from our first count trip of the fall and will be doing another in a couple weeks, the results are in the "Muley reports Chelan and Okanogan counties" thread........beautiful buck you got huntnnw

39 days hunting on 2 quality tags and another quality tag in between is not worth it.  These tags are great. Not really.

When the groomer for snowmobiles does not see the migratory mule deer that is bad.

I took my Dad and boys up last weekend and we saw three shooters in that area.  Rut was in full swing.  This  buck was within 25 yards for over 10 minutes.

Got a buddy in Wenatchee who is a diehard mule deer nut and has heard or saw nothing of any size coming out of that area.
