late 49 moose down
« on: November 11, 2019, 06:54:59 PM »
so I have been reluctant to post the fact that my dad drew a late 49 tag after the fact that in 13' i drew the 49 tag.... i didnt want the hate mail. lol if it helps i have 27 points for bull elk and still cant draw!!! anyways my plan was to head to 49 for the week of elk season to scout however my normal elk area had a ton of elk around. i ended up shooting a spike on Sunday. (cant complain shooting a general season legal elk) .... so i got there Wednesday before the opener... my buddy and I jump in the truck after setting up camp and we see nothing but elk day one...  next morning him and i set out and see a cow at light and two small bulls. my uncle and dad get to camp and we see one cow... next morning which is opening day we see nothing however that night we see a small bull at 375 yards and i am proud proud of my dad for not shooting it. it was a decent bull and it was bigger than the one i shot in 13'. In 13' i shot a smaller bull that we had called in and had my dad sitting over my shoulder... it was an amazing experience and wouldnt change a thing. so the next couple of days we only see cows... sometimes 5 cows a day... we saw one decent bull on Tuesday that he would have shot but couldnt get to... but  wednesday we found the one... everything happens for a reason.... 102 yards with some walking assistance... done deal.... couldnt be more happy!!!. I love you dad!!
