Please help with where to hunt with kids during last week?
« on: April 07, 2009, 03:31:11 AM »
I was wondering where would be a good place to hunt/camp for possibly the last week of turkey season?
Im currently deployed and will not have time to scout/ Im not familiar with any areas in Eastern Wa open to hunt. :dunno:

I think this is my first post, so here is a little about me.

I live in Western Wa and stationed at McChord AFB. I have been at McChord for the past 11 years! Im married and have 3 boys (16, 12 and 7). I promised them last year that we would go turkey hunting, but I broke my knee, so we would have to wait until this year.
Well...Im still deployed to "an undisclosed location is south West Asia" and not looking at getting home until mid to late May.  :bash: I am hoping to have time to get our stuff together, head to eastern Wa, camp and try to find some turkeys (no time for scouting). I hunted turkey when I was a kid with my dad back in upstate NY, but I havent chased them in over 20 years!
Does anyone have any suggestions where we should go?! Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Tom

First of all welcome to the site. Also thanks for your service to our great country! I have some places I could suggesst but I am not sure what the turkey activity is like in the later part of the season. I will send you a PM to tell you a little more.

Thanks Brandon! Ive looked at the harvest reports on the .gov site, but it doesnt really mention public land vs. private lands, so it doesnt really tell me what Im looking at.
I really appreciate the info and the help. Im hoping to leave the desert around May 19th or 20th and get home on or about the 23rd. My family and I will most likely be tent camping unless we can rent a camper from the base. I wont be able to look in to that until I get home.
Anyways, thanks again for the info!

TJ, if you know anybody that's based at Fairchild you might talk to them. They conduct their survival training in the hills around Usk or even possibly Lake Sullivan. They might be able to point you in a good direction. Other than that I don't have any other ideas for that late in the season. I am going to try some public land in the Southwest corner this year.
