I checked out an old haunt yesterday as my vacation comes to an end. Almost vacant from deer. I went to an overlook of a big field below. I saw a buck chasing a doe. It was a smaller buck. I got out the Binos and there was a heavier smaller 4 point with a couple doe. I decided to get closer as he was worth a pic at least. I drove down the little access road and kicked up another little buck. I rounded the corner and I see two bucks head to head in the field. I bailed out of the truck, threw up the camera and snapped a couple shots to at least document the thing. Usually these things last just a second. I then put on my doubler to bring it in closer. What proceeded next was One hell of a buck fight. The heavier buck won TWICE, but the challenger immediately reingaged. Then the bigger boy lost his footing and the smaller buck got him down on his back. He still had him locked up, but the little guy got out and gored the hell out of him as he tried to get his feet under him. The big guy got up, and was chased. Both were just exhausted. The doe wanted the bigger buck still. She kept following him and the other buck kept following her. I’m betting after I left there was another round. The fight brought another buck in. A three point who could be seen in a bunch of my pics as if it was a fight on the playground. I thought he was then going to have a go at it, but he didn’t. What a fight!
Talk about a realistic rattling session. I swear half of my life is through a viewfinder. Here’s to hoping some photos turned out. It was so dark with the fog. Fingers crossed.
Oh its on!
