Striped Screw
« on: November 20, 2019, 12:09:29 AM »
May be a dumb question....Does anyone have experience with dealing with/finding a solution for striped screws for the pad on a synthetic shotgun?

In order to replace a recoil spring I have to get two screws off the pad, but they are striped.  Even if they are removed I am unsure if a bigger screw would be a quick fix to hold the pad.  I have seen the fix for wood stocks, but never for synthetic shotguns.

Thanks.

If the threads are stripped you may be able to use a flat screwdriver between the stock and the pad to pry against the pad. The added pressure should allow the threads to catch and back out. Once the pad is off you can use some epoxy or something similar to attach some new screws.

I don't think I would be using a flat head screwdriver between the pad and stock. I'm sure it would leave an indent on the stock then it's there forever. Place the gun in a padded vice and while backing the screw out pull on the pad. :twocents: Good luck.

How about an easy out or reverse thread bit.....go slow, low torque, it should bite and back them right out.

Head stripped or stock threads stripped.

Head stripped, easy out or clamp down stock and use a screwdriver pushing really hard on the head, while not trying to let the driver slip off the head, and use a crescent on the handle of the driver.

Threads stripped on the stock, I might try an epoxy or other hard cure glue that is compatible with the stock material, then re-drill a pilot hole for the screw.

Worse case you cant get them out take a hack saw and cut through them.
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

Are the heads of the screws themselves stripped or the threads in the stock stripped?

All great replies.

Thanks for the ideas.

I will start with the less intrusive methods and work from there.
