You will most likely become what I refer to as a closet taper.

God, you tape just once and you've always been a taper.

Beautiful deer, congratulations!
You know you have to tape him now that you're thinking about it. I'll never shoot a deer of that quality, but it would be interesting to know the score.

And nets are for fish. We'll see what happens.
net never matters until you kill a buck big enough to net book  :chuckle:  I tape every single deer deer I can.  From a little forky to the biggest of big. It calibrates your eyecrometer and it's fun

Not if you keep it in the closet and don't ever come out.

Don't be using your wife's cloth sewing tape either.

I guess that's the deal. What am I really looking at? I see pictures of bucks guys swear tape out at 180" and I think to myself, there's just no way! My buck is that big and I don't think it's 180". Not even close. Pictures are a terrible way to judge size though, so there's that.

Well I have 27 tapes at my house, but can never find any of them when I need them. I know exactly where the wifes is, because it never gets used.  :chuckle:

ALWAYS take internet scores with a grain of salt. I'd say better than 90% of people throwing scores around don't actually understand or know the scoring system.  Heck I have seen guys on here who would be considered top end mule deer/elk guys who miscore. Measuring from the wrong spot, using outside spread instead of inside of main beams, extra measurements, etc.  If you ever roll through the general vicinity of Yakima/kittitas county I would love to get my hands on that big boy and score him for you.

I may be back that way bird hunting this winter, still working on the schedule. I'll let you know.

Well. I broke down and did it. I did my best to follow the instructions on where to measure from, but I'm sure someone well versed will come up with a different number. Pretty much falls about where I thought it would. One more set of antlers to do and then my curiosity will be satisfied.

You're probably pretty close. I had him low 70's so you're for sure in the ballpark. Once again, great buck man!
