M70 Aftermarket Stock Options
« on: November 27, 2019, 10:04:59 PM »
I have a mint condition Winchester model 70 featherweight in 270wsm. The wood stock is beautiful and I wanna keep it that way. So I wanna see what options I have for a rugged lightweight hunting stock/chassis. Want to be able to shoot this gun out to 6-700yds for deer hunting. What do you guys recommend? Don’t really wanna spend more than 500

I would look at Stockeys Gun Stocks. Send me a PM and I will send you their link as I don't want to get banded for posting link on public forum.
Nothing like a Remington model 700xcr.

Look at McMillan stocks.  Made to order.  Fit is great.

I put a Bell and Carlson Medalist on mine.  The fit and finish are far better than the orginal tupperware stock.  I think it was rought $250-$300.

How much bedding is usually required, with these higher quality, aftermarket stocks such as McMillan?

How much bedding is usually required, with these higher quality, aftermarket stocks such as McMillan?

Do you mean how much actual bedding material is needed to bed a stock, or are you asking about how much "fitting" is required before you bed the action?

Unless the barrel channel doesn't fit and needs to be opened up, McM stocks generally don't require much fitting and as for the actual amount of bedding epoxy needed, a couple ounces.
