Hunting trike
« on: November 04, 2019, 08:33:24 PM »
First outing with the trike yesterday. Built it specifically to creep along logging roads, primarily for grouse. Started life as a road trike but I gathered a bunch of parts and had a local shop assemble it all.   I hunt off a traditional bike frequently, and this is completely different.  You can absolutely creep along and not focus on balance or that big rut in the road.   Shot 2 grouse cruising on a 4 mile flat loop. The scoped Contender in a shoulder rig is easy to draw and stays out of the way when pedaling.   Fits nicely in the Tacoma bed too!

Here’s mine.
Long flat gated roads the best.

Or drop it off high.
Drive truck down and hunt back up to bike.
Coast back to truck.

You're right about flat roads...   I thought my fitness level would be the constraint, but the hill climbing geometry is really bad and the back tire spins pretty easily on anything moderately steep.  I've spotted a couple other flat 3-5 mile loops on Google earth and plan to hit them Saturday.

I totally did this notion. I have seen some articles about using bikes to get deeper into the woods for deer but the trike idea has some appeal.

In my case the roads have to be not to rutted. My mike isn’t as easy as it looks. You can’t lean it like a normal bike. Ya got to steer it. I put a tow handle on the front and I can pull it real easy like a wagon.
You can shot off it as you do t have to balance it.

I've always wondered about a 4 wheeled two person powered rig for archery elk.

Added rack and basket off another bike that wasn't seeing much use.  Aluminum supports tied into the seat frame so it's nice and sturdy.  Also added a scabbard which fits the 20 gauge coach gun like a glove.
