Cabin Fever: Turkey Cure?
« on: April 05, 2009, 09:17:06 AM »
Hey guys, I have absolutely no experience with Turkeys. Wife is gone for 3 weeks, until the 20th. I'm taking care of the boys (3 & 5) and making knives and calls... I'm gettting a little cabin fevered up here!

I'm thinking of trying for Turkey just to get out of the house. The kids are used to sitting still and quiet in camoflage on Bobcat stands, and I wouldn't do it without them in this situation. They're the reason for the post and question, they're IN, no matter what.

I have a couple calls I traded for with Ed "Callmakerman" Blankenship, and I've sure seen it plenty on the outdoor channel!

What do you think? Should I bother?

Go for it....but be warned.  If you get in the game with those gobblers whether you kill one on not, you will acquire an untreatable disease.  Come every spring you will get weirder and weirder....making funny noises, making your family doubt your sanity...and on and on and on and on........... :chuckle:

Centurion, That already happens as the fur primes up and the cats make tracks in snow... might as well make it year round!

Any thoughts on where to go? Is it worth trying in the SW, closer to home?

For someone new to turkey hunting and taking two boys, I would not recommend SW.  Those Easterns do exist but they require lots of scouting and knowing what to look for as well as being a vetran turkey hunter as they are undoubtedly the hardest turkey in this country to hunt...fact.
Go to NE washington....a long drive granted....but tons of birds....visible and vocal.  Lots of forest service land etc to hunt on....get some good maps.  Pretty much anywhere......you'll find them in Stevens, eastern Ferry, northern Spokane and portions of P.O. counties.
