The scouting that does help prior to the season is knowing the road systems, where logging activity is and access points.  I do a lot of electronic scouting with OnX and Google Earth and the WDFW online map system...but I never really have a good concept of the area until I can drive some of the roads.  Finding multiple options for camping and trail access is important if they are crowded when the season starts.

If you can hike some of the backpacking trails or cat roads to get an idea if your cutting tracks, seeing droppings or other sign.
