just got back from a weekand in eastern washington , went there to drop off tank my yellow lab to lee salmon of wind river labs , she is a nice person , after alot of thinking back an forth i ended up chooseing to leave tank with a trainer , as my time is very limited to train him myself and i dont have experience in training hunting labs , this is my first time having a hunting dog , cant wait to get back to meet with her and see his progress , right now we are going for 3 months of obedience and force fetch , then depending on how quick he learns we are gonna decide if we should leave him there for 1 or 2 more months of blind retrieve training

What does three months of obedience and the force fetch cost?...I was thinking of having my dog force fetched, and a month or two of gun dog training...

Weavel, if your pup has a natural retrieve you may want to just reinforce it. The force fetch process is really pretty rough. If you can avoid it and still have a good dog do it. If not send the dog out, don't do it yourself, you'll ruin a good friendship. If you have never heard how force fetch is done, take a look into it. Just one guys opinion.

the first 3 months includes force fetch ,basic obidience , and gun dog training she is gonna have him retrieve birds and such , i am paying 550 per month , 3 month minimum

in the beginning i really didnt want to send him out but i dont know to much of training hunting dogs, i want to have a good hunting dog that knows what he is doing , im gonna be meeting with her every couple weeks after his first month or so there

Force fetch is not that bad, i am working with my dog on force fetch, and he still is my best friend. It only takes 10-20 minutes a day to train for a hunting dog. I feel bad, but know its nessisary to aquire the results.

Mine is coming along good, and i have no idea what what i a m doing. So i am training with the direction of a trainer.

I've Force fetched all my dog's... it the only part of training I totally don't enjoy... but it's necessary for the training that comes after... never has a dog hate me for it.. and they've all been my best friends since

good for you ben, i still plan on going to the hrc hunt test in fall city the 18th and 19, if you want to come and watch, i belive its at carlsons.

Just remember, you may not like what you see.

Much of training is if they doonot obey they are pushed for results, some times it requires pain tothe dog toget required results. Some do not like to see the pain being inflicted on there dog and donot understand why it is nessisary.

I do not havecausing or seeing any discomfort for my Hemi,but know its part of the learning process and is nessisary for training.

Unless it is one of the trainers that rewards with food and praise for desired results.(some do)

I think he was talking about the HRC Hunt test....no need to go watch a dog be forced fetched unless you are going to do it yourself. You will only be a distraction to the pup which is the last thing needed.

yea i meant the hunt test as well , also i understand what happens with force fetch , i dont think any owner wants to see there dog go throught that but at the same time the dog needs that training and needs to learn what it needs to do ..... im not gonna be going during the force fetch she said there is no need to and i dont want to interfere with the force fetch process

Hey Paul, looks like i wil be at the "Hunt Test" in "Carnation" the second weekend of May. My daughter is going to be working the birds for it and i think Bryant and Cindy have some plans for putting me to work also.

Are you going to be there?

Yeah, I'll probably be there. They usually ask me to shoot the fliers a day before the event.(I think I am pretty low on the list but reliable no less:) ) Tell Bryant you want to work the live gunner station with me....I have a perfect record shooting at the hunt tests with Bryants Winchester O/U....not a missed flier...

I need one pass for my Chessies AKC Senior Hunter title. Might run it at that test. She won't be ready for Master until later this year, maybe fall.

Good deal, we'll be sure to catch up. Great to get more kids involved. Be forewarned, the days can be long and kids have to pay attention all day. It is still fun to watch all the dogs and a good opportunity to talk all day....

no, i have to work that weekend, only reason i get to run next weekend my mill is taking a shutdown for lack of orders. but i'll have memorial weekend off i'll run OHRTC's doubleheader if she's not in heat. i have limited weekends off thats why i started running HRC and AKC both.

Carlson's is on Neal Rd. in Fall City.

Pepper's is on West Snoqualmie Valley Road. It is two driveways south of Novelty Hill Road and West Snoqualmie Valley road stop light. It is really closer to Duvall than Carnation. You can see the blue bridge from the property.

Cherry Valley is 2 miles north (towards Monroe) of Duvall on 203.

Dr. Greenleafs is just south of the Lewis St. bridge in Monroe.

That sums up the retriever grounds used for Hunt tests on the west side of the hill. (except for field trials at Fort Lewis)

i've never ran at greanleafs, but did run a couple at fort lewis, i enjoy peppers the best. sauvies island and st lous ponds are closer for me so i try to hit as many of them as possible. my mom lives north of greatfalls in montana so i run one there very couple of years too.

I passed a Senior hunter at Sauvie Island last year. It was flooded like crazy...not much room for a land test.

Dr. Greenleafs is pretty small. They can only run one series at a time. Usually they'll run a derby there...or the picnic tests.
