Looks great! What kind of wood for the hoop? Did you put a leather backer on backside of fur before running the leather string through? Or just straight through the hide? Im going to do my first beaver from last year and looking for pointers. Again, outstanding job on that. Great way to show it off.

Sorry about the cockeyed pic not sure why it did that. I did use a backer to re-enforce the hide, I was worried it would tear threw. I’m planning on doing a few more so I’ll play with a few different ideas and update, this was kind of a trial run

I've done a few and I think willow is the best for the hoops, easy to bend and easy to find a straight one. Get them in the spring when the bark is slipping so they peel easy.
I never used a backer on mine, just straight through the beaver hide. never had any problems.
I find you can only sew from leather side to fur side and it has to be tightened that way otherwise it pulls fur through and doesn't look so good.

Looks great. I've got several soft tanned beaver laying around that would look great as wallhangers like this. One is a 68" with bright red guard hair that I've always wanted to display. Now I've got an idea so thank you.
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

I've made a couple over the years too.  Here is my last one I made.
I dressed it up a little and some old friends have given me some stuff to add to it.
I think if you're giving it to a friend for Christmas, you're a good friend.
Merry Christmas

I have made several like this one.  Tanned with no backing and as Humptulips mentioned, lace from the leather side.  Willow with the bark on.
It never changes, but it is always different.

Knew a guy in Toutle that made beaver wall hangings with 2 or 3 elk sheds as hoop or attached to hoop. Very nice.

All of them are good looking displays.  It shows that you don't have to follow certain instructions and can use your imagination.  Except the way you lash the hide with cord or leather strips:  from the leather side out the fur side like Bruce said.  You can also use maple shoots that grow from a stump.  They aren't quite as flexible as willow.
