I will be buying a point again this year for elk. I believe it will put me at 11. May buy a point for deer and antelope as well.

I thought you only got credit for 10 points in draw regardless of how many u had, then 25% went to random.    Then other pool was for special draw ( more expensive ) with same 75/25 split.

Max points increases by one per year. It is basically the number of years since they started the points system.  You have max if you bought a point every year and have never drawn.

For the regular draw, 75% of the regular tags go to highest points and 25% go into a random draw.

There is also the special draw.

I'm for a general elk tag and think ill start buying points for deer and antelope too. Wonder how moving the draw date will effect application numbers.

14 points is max, 60/40 split for regular/special, 75/25 split for points/random for regular and special. Wish the deadline was in May, what’s the point if you can just modify/withdraw in May anyways.

And they get to collect interest on it for a longer period of time.

If I was the state of Wyoming, I would go away from the regular price and charge the special price for all of their tags.  In MOST (not all) cases, they turn away enough people in the special draw that could have filled the regular quota.  Its just pure business to them.  Yes it is sad that hunting out of state is turning into a rich mans sport but business is business.  If you were selling widgets and you were selling 60% of them for a $100 and 40% of them for $200 and were turning massive amounts of people away that were willing to pay the $200, you would re-think your business model and sell all of your widgets for $200.  Just plain old common sense and business.  They don't owe anything to the out of state hunter.  Their interests are in their residents and their herds.  I cant believe I am saying this but it only makes sense.  Especially if you live in the state of Wyoming.  Studies show, the guy that is willing to spend twice the price for the tag is also willing to stay in a motel instead of his truck.  He's also more apt to eat at the restaurants and not out of their ice chests.  Businesses would also flourish.

I'm looking for a good friend with max points.  I will lead you right to the big bucks I left on the mountain last year.   :chuckle:

If you know where a big enough buck is you’ll get someone to partner up with max points.
