Cauliflower Mushroom

Is this a cauliflower mushroom? I’ve seen photos of them before, but I’ve never picked one. Added the dollar bill for size reference.

Yep.  My favorite mushroom to eat.

How do you cook them?  I thought the ones I've found were so-so.

How do you clean them? Looks like a motel for bugs.

Thanks guys! I tried it tonight and it was pretty good. I’m gonna cook some up in a couple days when I have more time. Might try a stroganoff or a fettuccini.

Pull it all apart and rinse it out.

I used mine in chicken soup.

Bowman you are a lucky dog.  :chuckle:

Check the base for worm holes and trim the base back. If you still have worm holes, you can soak in salt water for a while and some of them will come out - good protein. Separate the leaves. You can use it like lasagna noodles, roast it, saute it, put in stir fry. It's an excellent mushroom to eat. Super aroma.

A search does not show many mushroom threads. I think we should have a sticky thread that shows edible mushrooms in the PNW with tips on where to look for them and when they grow. Not like the locations but more like swamps, dead trees ext. Might be kinda cool to see what is out there.

And if you have a weak stomache dont soak them and pretend theirs no worms. It took me a while to get over it. Ignorance is bliss  :twocents:

I don't like eating wormy mushrooms, but they won't kill you. I'm lucky to have them at work anytime I want them.
