high water
« on: January 06, 2020, 11:41:54 AM »
Hi everyone. This is my first year trapping. Just got home from checking my sets and everything is flooded out (thankfully I could still get to all my traps and pulled the ones that are at risk and not going to work now anyways).... all the choke points I had been planing on using for my next sets, everyplace I had traps. It's all a lake, on several creeks. How do you handle trapping near water when we start getting weather like this? Maybe I should move to trying to trap something on land where it's dryer like bobcats/civics? Do you guys still water trap after it floods? Only choke points I can find now are culverts under the rds. That begs the question, can you trap county rd right ways, aka the culverts and bridges?

Or are there tricks on where to put traps in flood waters? So far I have been targeting trails and choke points, but now those are all underwater.... Thanks for the help or any ideas or tricks.

Flooded waters ............ where LOL
Welcome to the trapping.  Boy all I can say is hang in there.  When it floods I pull everything too so I don't loose anything.
I've lost a lot of gear trapping in floods when I first started out like you.  Yep, pull them and sit back and watch the water fall back into where it belongs, then go out after the water animals.

In the meantime, go out after some cats or coon on dry land.

As for culverts, great place to trap mink, muskrats and I would say Yes you can trap them
