Grinder Recommendations

Looking for suggestions for an electric meat grinder for making elk burger and potentially sausage down the road.  I have been borrowing a friends, but am looking to get my own.  Any brands/models that everyone likes?

My experience, if you buy cheap (<150 ish) you'll break it about every two years. Actually have plastic gears, can you believe that?!?!

(I found an old commercial Hobart grinder... I don't anticipate ever buying another one.)

I am also interested in recommendations for a meat grinder. LEM or Cabelas Carnivore series are the 2 that have caught my eye.

I just bought a meat grinder at Wal mart under a Mossy Oak Game Keeper on clearance for $60. Has 3 grinding plates, 2.4 HP, appears sturdy. My wonderful wife put our much loved and heavily used Cabelas grinder together to grind my daughters deer while I was at work last fall. She accidentally put the cutting blade on backwards and seized up the motor. We were in the market for a new one and figured for $60 may as well give it a go. Deer is in the freezer and needing ground!

I have the Cabelas Carnivore 1 HP and i think it's a good one. Its a good think the kids parents in the story above don't have it as i'm sure it would have ripped the kids arm off.

My uncle and I had Hobart for years. He moved and took it with him, so I bought a Tor Rey and it does just as good. Both were purchased used and are pretty expensive new.

Every now and then one pops up on Craigslist or Offer up.

Mine is the Tor Rey model 12-FS.

I have a 1 hp cabelas grinder. It's great. It grinds faster than I can stuff it. I've had it for over 5 years now and haven't had any problems with it.

Just finished grinding 110# of venison trim at my buddies place with a LEM 1.5 hp.  Really nice unit, $500-ish.
Buy once, cry once.
