Libby Mt advice
« on: January 15, 2020, 09:25:50 AM »
I’m heading over in a few weeks to explore the area for a few days with the family, and to scout future hunting areas.  Any pointers on this area?
I plan to see if I think it has potential or if I need to look elsewhere. My hunting will be for deer, and will likely include my 11 year old.

Lots of public access around, but snow is going to be a limiting factor this time of year for scouting..

If you're close to the mine, go when there's a little snow cover or good soil moisture. I ran into a bunch of turkeys over there last spring.

Libby is a nice town...not sure how much scouting you would be able to do with the current snowpack.

You will see a lot of deer in town  :chuckle: I think they did a special archery season to get rid of a few. You wont be able to hit much country right now short of bringing  snowmobiles. That whole part of northwest montana is not even close what it used to be they have predator problems still quite a few deer nothing like it was

Thank you for the replies, that is good info.
I will likely head over again later in the summer.

If it makes a difference to you, Libby is a CWD area.

Yes I did see that there were reported/confirmed cases of CWD. This might just be a fun trip, and I’ll keep searching this summer for other areas to scout for hunting.
