I think it depends on barrel and what kind of specs you want for the barrel.Barrels alone can range all over the place. If the chambering is unique and they have to buy or make odd ball reamers that can get expensive. Bluing, sights, crown, etc.
Bummer. And I imagine you don't want to just download the 30-06 to less powder and use as-is?Some of the barrel companies (Shaw, Hart, etc.) will also do an install for you if you ship them your barreled action. https://www.shawcustombarrels.com/shop/product/remington-1/19https://www.shawcustombarrels.com/docs/c6_CompleteBarreledActionOrderFormREV120Rem.pdf You'll still be over $600 for barrel+install+barrel finish going that route. More if you do more services. The Shaw barrel itself for Rem 700 in 22" sporter is around $220-$350 depending on chromoly vs. stainless and type of finish. There are cheaper barrel options like Green Mountain, etc. and there are significantly more expensive options for barrels as well (and thicker contours). So if the $850 includes the barrel, then that price isn't out of line.
