Cameras and an audible driveway alarm would also help

Hitch lock.  I also ran a cable through my cargo trailer wheels around the frame.  FiL called me paranoid.  I did not have to deal with this.

Unfortunately, thieves can thwart just about anything these days. I bought one of these tongue locks and thought I was ******** in tall cotton. Then I came across this video. FML.

Shimming a lock is a no-talent hack.  My oldest wanted a lock pick practice set for Christmas.  It turns out that not much talent is need to begin picking locks.

No guarantee, I had two trailers stolen with a lock. A small one was cabled to the big one. They even took the cinder block the jack was on....

Well then let’s just leave everything unlocked since there is nothing that helps.

Alarm
Locks
Camera

I keep my boat under covered storage behind a locked gate with tongue locked, motion alarms and infrared cameras
Do I still pay attention to it and stay vigilant

yes

Shimming a lock is a no-talent hack.  My oldest wanted a lock pick practice set for Christmas.  It turns out that not much talent is need to begin picking locks.
I had a box of old combination locks I forgot the combinations for.  After about 10 minutes of Youtube videos I had them open and had the numbers for each lock.  Scary how easy it really was to do.

Glad to hear this outcome! Hopefully they don't come back for it again...it happens! Even if the trailer locks can be broken they force someone to spend time on them and may give you or a neighbor a chance to catch them.
Fish hard, hunt harder!
