Once in a lifetime buck
« on: January 24, 2020, 09:57:57 PM »
Just thought I'd post this picture on here for a Blacktail reference on antler growth.  I've been very fortunate to have a buck on family property that doesn't wander far and is very consistent every year.  I figure he is a 2012 fawn and will turn 8 this year.  He roams about a 1/2 mile area and has dropped his sheds most years within a 200 yard radius.  This year was an exception do to a couple new factors in his home area.  Took me and my sons about 6 miles of sweeping the woods to put this years set together.  I truly feel blessed and cannot imagine putting another collection like this together in my lifetime.

That neat to have collected all of those.  I think I’d find a way to display them all together on a wall somehow.  Thanks for sharing it!

That's cool you are able to find his sheds for several years.

In what age order are these antlers?

Lower left is 2014, then moving right to 2016.  Upper left is 2017 moving right to 2019.

Are you going to try to kill him this next season?

As much as I might want to, he's got a free pass from me, just doesn't seem right at this point.  To be honest his biggest threat is probably a vehicle.

Well it will be cool to see how long he may live, and how his rack goes as he ages.

I appreciate that attitude.  Kudos.  It will be cool to see if you can continue the sequence over time!
