So crazy night. Was driving back to Enumclaw on 169 and right before Black Diamond an elk runs out in front of me and takes out my left fender. I pull over and she's gone. I looked on the hillside to see if she's there hurt. Nothing to see. I call 911 to get a police report and then 3 minutes later an elk comes off the hill and a KIA suv smacks it big time. Now this elk is down and the lady that hit it is in shock with her car totaled. Me and my wife help the lady gain her composure and move her wasted suv off the road. The elk is still alive so I go over and finish it off with my 9mm. Then the state patrol, sheriff, fire department and a few other cars with lights arrive.  A local guy shows up in PU to take the elk. It was 5 minutes from home but my wife was shook up and thought it was crazy to take an elk you hit with your car. Dang I just got  new LEM chamber vac and said tonights my lucky night! Oh well the guy that took said he would share the bounty when he had it butchered.

State police probably have to file paperwork if they fire their weapon.

I know a city cop who hunts and anytime a deer was hit in the city they called him since he wasn't fazed by the euthanizing....he got so tired of the paperwork that the next time they called him he slit the deer's throat...Internal Affairs was needed since he didn't fire his weapon but the supervisor wasn't happy...they stopped calling him. Win-Win.

Hate to be that guy, but I was just studying the salvage permit and saw this :  An individual may not kill an injured or wounded animal for the purpose of salvage. Only a law enforcement officer or individuals or entities authorized by the department may euthanize an animal injured in a motor vehicle collision, whether or not the animal is taken for salvage. Possession of wildlife in violation of subsection (4) is punishable under RCW 77.15.750.
Don't want anyone to miss out on some good meat.
