Lets all be good neighbors
« on: February 03, 2020, 02:14:02 PM »
Everybody all over the country always sticks their nose in our business, in a bad way.  Lets stick our nose in idahos business, but in a helpful manner.  Lets be good neighbors.  Greatly increased wolf hunting and trapping is proposed in idaho.  Show your support here on this survey.

Ill just talk about the panhandle real quick.  As of right now, wolves are open year round in the panhandle on private land.  I contacted IDFG and confirmed that private timber company land (stimson etc etc) is considered private land, and open year round.  But on public land the season is currently aug 1st through march 31st.  This proposal would change public land yo aug 1st through june 30th, which adds 3 months.

Pretty much late dec through end of march, the last 3 months or so of the current season, the best hunting time, if you dont have a snomobile or something youre screwed.  This added season time of april 1 - june 30th would enable guys who dont have snowmobiles to actually be able to get out and hunt wolves, and to do so at the most important time of the year, fawn / calf dropping time.  This is a big benefit to deer hunters, elk hunters, moose hunters, and wolf hunters.  Please support this, it only takes a minute.

Looks like it is for Idaho residents only since it is auto-filled with Idaho where you list your address.

It doesnt say residents only, and it does allow you to choose a state.  So i dont think so.  Certainly cant hurt to do the survey at any rate, and it only takes a minute.

Either way, you can bet your ass all kinds of pro wolf a holes from other states are commenting, so we should too, to help offset that.

That is also when spring bear hunters are hunting bear, and you can take a wolf at a bear bait. Even though wolves don't come in regularly to bear baits they do come to bear baits at times, so this could be a little more help in controlling wolf numbers.

Good point, didnt even occur to me.  Baiting wolves is illegal, with the exception that wolves taken over bait incidentally to baiting bears is legal.  So if you are hunting bear during an open bear season, with a legal bait site, you can kill wolves that come into the bait.

Yes if wolf season is open, we double checked it with the game warden to be sure.

I highlighted the info from page 79 of the regs:
https://idfg.idaho.gov/sites/default/files/seasons-rules-big-game-2019-2020-wolf.pdf

Wolf Hunting Rules
Bait: Hunting big game over bait is illegal, except for black
bears. Wolves may be taken incidentally to bear baiting. It is
unlawful to hunt wolves within 200 yards of the perimeter of
any designated dump or sanitary landfill.
