Where to find powders

Most of my suppliers have ben told by fire Marshal that they can only have so much on display the remainder has to be in a fire proof vault. If you notice those that do have a large display of powder containers those containers are empty and you have to ask for the powder they go and get it from the vault "Ammo locker" as was th case at Hooked on Toys, Sportsman Warehouse in Wenatchee and the Big R/ North40 store in Omak

That's a new thing then, as I've always bought powder at Sportsmans right off the shelf without having to ask for it from a back room.   


Did some new Washington state law go into place on this that I missed?   


It's not a federal thing, because I still can buy powder off the shelf in Oregon at Bi-Mart and Sportsmans there just fine (just bought more last week there).  I haven't been to a Washington location of Sportsmans in 2020 yet.  So just curious.

Same at my local sportsmans....1lb on the shelf, consult the book for what's in stock and ask for it

Been a code most places. Only allowed so many pounds on the shelf. Excess goes in powder magazine or vault

I have always had good luck with Sportco.
Sportsman Warehouse in Puyallup seems to have a decent supply the times I have been there.

Sportsman’s Warehouse in Spokane have been this way since they reopened a few years ago. Gotta ask the gun counter for it.

Not just Sportsman I believe its a requirement

Found it, it's RCW 70.74.340

Looks like it's been on the books for many years (1969), but not well enforced.  As the Puyallup Sportsmans had far more than 75lbs on the shelf when I last went there in 2019.   Looks like somebody decided to start enforcing that state law more strictly now.

But that law is just for on the shelf.  I'm sure the store has plenty in the vault/storage magazine if somebody were to ask.
