bobtail 1911
« on: February 05, 2020, 08:34:01 PM »
Does anybody have a bobtailed 1911? I've got a stupid bug to buy one to replace my full sized Kimber and I'm just curious if anybody has one.

I had a Dan Wesson CCBT 10mm for a while that I used as my EDC until it slam fired when I dropped the slide (retracted the slide and then
released, not hitting the slide lock to drop it). That gun went back to Dan Wesson for a complete rebuild at no charge and came back with all new internals, thanks to some phenomenal customer service at CZ USA/Dan Wesson. I never trusted it again though and sold it about a year later without ever shooting it again.

I switched to a full size Kimber TLE II as my primary carry gun for almost 7 years now but I suddenly miss the Bobtail Commander. I'm not looking to spend $2K + on and Ed Brown or Wilson Combat and it looks like the options are pretty much Dan Wesson, Kimber, Sig or possibly Springfield. I'm not crazy about a 9mm so I think that rules out the Springfield. It looks like Kimber has a couple, but they're either full size 5" barrel models or their Aegis models with fiber optic sights, which seem a little low budget IMO. I don't have any first hand experience with the SIG 1911s so I'm not sure sure what to think of them.

I keep coming back to the Dan Wesson options for a good combination of quality and price, but I'm still a little turned off after my last one even though they took care of me after my issues.

I can understand that experience might detour you from buying another DW, but it sounds like they took care of you.

I have a DW 9mm Guardian (Bobtail), and a DW Pointman, both have run flawless. I agree the bobtail is nice, it just fits in my hand like it was made for it. As you said they are good quality for the money. The fit and finish is better than my Kimber .

Best of luck in your search,

G
